Bookings v1.0

Reimaging Healthcare for Providers and Patients

What is Bookings v1.0?

In conjunction to developing the MyPractice app, part of expanding the product was to create a bookings functionality. This enables practice managers manage patient bookings, doctors and clinic duties. In addition, we needed to create a user interface for patients to book appointments.

My Role and Key Takeaways

Our Product and design team were given a list of product requirements in which we had to decipher and create a bookings module from.

I had multiple roles I had to fulfil within the project.

Roles

Leading UX Research: In charge of organizing user interviews, usability testing and compiling insights.

Product Management: Assisting the senior product manager to decide what features would exist in our bookings module.

Key Takeaways

Correlation Causation - Results collected in usability testing must be carefully interpreted and correlated with other pieces of evidence (like live recordings) to draw sound conclusions from.

Learning the art of user interviews - To not stick too closely to a script during an interview but go with the flow when asking questions, whilst making sure we get all the answers we want for our questions.

Discovering the Issue

Our first main hurdle was understanding the list of technical requirements, given by an external contractor.

As a junior product manager, I was tasked to assist in selecting and culling features from the product, majority which were hard to understand without a technical background or context.

Speaking to our users and consulting with Subject Matter Experts (SME) would provide clarity into understanding our tasks at hand.
